Theologically, I suspect that much could be made of the muppets' excoriation of the lyric "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me" to become "Does anyone know if there is a part for me?".

Kim, I'm re-reading the chronology at the beginning of your second paragraph and scratching my head. It looks to me as if you must have lost about ten years somewhere between the sixties and seventies. But then, I suppose that's quite a common experience.
